Why You Need A Cropped Cardigan
The perfect cropped cardigan is essential to the smooth running of any pinup wardrobe. Not only will it keep your bingo wings warm, it will also make getting dressed in the morning infinitely less stressful. My failsafe outfit formula is:
wiggle dress + cropped cardigan + coordinating hair flower = instant pin up chic
They are the most flattering design on a curvy figure because they spotlight your waist and give you extra coverage without messing up your silhouette. They can be tricky to find but there’s no need to get your frilly knickers in a twist because I have personally tried, tested and been thrilled by all the cardis in this post.
Pinup Girl Clothing, $22
My latest PUG splurge included a couple of their cropped cardigans and I can confirm that they are fabulous – the ideal length, available in a retro rainbow of gorgeous colourways and featuring a flattering open V-neck. I ordered the size Small and it was perfect for a snug sweater girl fit. I always size down in cardis to make sure they show off my shape as much as possible. I’m a UK 12-14 but my cardigan drawer looks like it belongs to a much slimmer, more disciplined woman, who does a lot of Pilates and mostly wears a UK 8. The brand name of this particular cropped cardigan is MAK and they are stocked at a few other retailers, including Trashy Diva (see below). An absolute staple in a pinup wardrobe.
New Look, £9.99
When I find a style that works on me and doesn’t break the piggy bank, like this little number costing a tenner from New look, I snap it up in several shades. I love the pale pink for a girly 1950s look and the white for throwing on over all my summer dresses.
Trashy Diva, $28
Trashy Diva stocks the same pinup perfect cardi as Pinup Girl Clothing and boasts one of the most extensive ranges I’ve found online. This isn’t even their whole selection! It’s so useful to have a stash of colours to create different looks. To start with you’ll need the classic pin up shades – black, red and a boudoiry peachy pink. Once you’ve covered the basics, you can branch out into brights, prints and whatever else floats your pin up boat.
Proving basics don’t have to be basic, printed cardis add a little playfulness to your outfit. I love seeing what the creative designers at Collectif come up with each season. They do the cutest, kitschiest prints, perfect whether you’re a lobster or a toucan kind of girl.
Hell Bunny, £24.99
I’ve already waxed lyrical about the Paloma cropped cardigan by Hell Bunny. I have pastel blue, mint and black and they’re so flattering I wear them constantly. I just wish the Paloma came in more colours so I could feed my addiction.
