Because a wardrobe isn’t built on prom dresses alone.
Here’s a rundown of my favourite go-to vintage style tops. They all look fabulous worn with pencil skirts, circle skirts, cigarette trousers and a whole lotta sass. Here I am pouting my way through my personal pinup top hall of fame.
The Dolores Top by Collectif
An absolute essential for any pinup wardrobe. The concealed side zip nips in your waist and the elasticated puff sleeves can be worn off the shoulder if you’re feeling Spanish. Collectif always stock the core colourways – black, red, white, leopard and polka dot. Then every season they release new prints, perfect for giving your wardrobe a pick-me-up without breaking the bank. I’m a busty size UK12-14 and I wear a 12 in this style.
The Doris Top by Pinup Girl Clothing
I love the longer length sleeves because they look elegant and keep my bingo wings warm. The zipper at the back makes this top really form-fitting, showing off your figure to maximum effect. I pair mine with a wiggle skirt or cigarette trousers and always feel smart but seductive. I wear a Large.
The Bardot Top by Hell Bunny
Hell Bunny’s jersey vintage style tops are amazing because they’re as easy-to-wear as a T-shirt but a trillion times more flattering. With their 1950s inspired shape, they make a wonderful casual basic and they’re excellent value at £14.99. The plunging neckline and tie at the centre make this design extra flirty and sex kittenish. Ideal for those comfy pinup days. I wear a Medium.
The Audra Top by Miss Candyfloss
Top from Miss Candyfloss, belt from Pinup Girl Clothing, hair flower from Bennies Fifties Store
Like the Hell Bunny Bardot top, this is a T-shirt with added tailoring. The pleated bust and bolero-style short-sleeves add vintage charm while enhancing your curves. The fabric is a luxurious soft stretch jersey, much higher quality then your average casual top. It comes in lots of beautiful colours and prints, with new ones being added each season. I take a Medium.
The Peasant Top by Pinup Girl Clothing
This peasant top reminds me of Sophia Loren, especially when it’s worn with a full circle skirt. I love the way the gathered bust and wide open neckline give it a 1950s gypsy feel. Best of all is the fitted bodice with the zip at the back to pull your waist in. The supportive sateen fabric makes this top extra special and super flattering. I find the Large fits me best.
